Recycling & Compost Guidelines

Here you will get an idea of what you can recycle and how it is to be bundled!


Our Trash / Compost / Recycling service is provided by  DUNCAN DISPOSAL

Recycling Guideline:

  • Recycling Pickup is the same day as our trash service; currently every Thursday.

  • The 18 gallon bin provided is the property of GLWS.  If you need a tub, or if you are moving, please call the above number.

  • Place plastic, glass, and metal recyclables in the bin.  Newspaper should be placed in a paper grocery bag next to the bin.

Plastic:   

Accepted:    Clear & Opaque plastic bottles, must be labeled with a #1 or #2 on the bottom

Examples:    Soda Bottles, Milk Jugs, Water Bottles, Detergent Bottles, Bleach Bottles

To Prepare:    Remove & discard caps and rings, rinse and flatten if possible

Not Accepted:    Motor Oil, Plastic Bags, Styrofoam

Glass:     

Accepted:    Clear, Brown, and Green Bottles and Jars Only

Examples:    Food Jars, Juice Bottles, Soda Bottles

To Prepare:    Remove & discard caps and rings, rinse.  No need to remove labels

Not Accepted:    Window Glass, Light Bulbs, Drinking Glasses, Ceramics

Metal:     

Accepted:    Tin & Aluminum Cans, Aluminum Foil

Examples:    Food & Beverage Cans, Pie Tins, and Food Trays

To Prepare:    Remove & discard Labels, rinse, and flatten if possible

Not Accepted:    Large Metal Objects, Foil with Food Residue

Paper:     

Accepted:    Newspaper and all Inserts

Examples:    Newsprint, Coupons, Glossy Advertisements

To Prepare:    Place at the curb with the recycling bin with paper placed in a paper grocery bag

Not Accepted:    Junk Mail, Office Paper, Newspapers in Plastic Bags

 

Compost Guidelines:

  • Compost items include:   grass clippings, leaves, shrub and tree branches.

  • Compost must be placed in craft paper bags or in a clearly marked container (compost container stickers are available from GLWS). Paper Craft Bags may be purchased at stores like Home Depot and Acco Hardware.

  • No compost is to be mixed with household trash.

  • Brush, such as tree branches, must be tied in bundles which are no longer than 4 feet in length.

  • No compost container should exceed 80 pounds in weight.
